Du Vietnam à l'Allemagne : Nos Objets Ont Plus d'Importance Qu'On Ne Le Pense

Recently, we had the privilege of assisting a client with their relocation from the vibrant city of Vung Tau, Vietnam, to the bustling streets of Munich, Germany

As we carefully packed their belongings, we were reminded of how culture, emotions, and belongings intertwine to shape our experience of relocating to a new country, or back home.

More than simple objects, many of the belongings we have the privilege to take care of carry a story, and a significance to their owner that we are entrusted to preserve.

Objects Matter More Than We Think

A recent research, titled Moving countries: Belongings as central for realizing the affective relation between international shifts and localized micro movements, shed light on the pivotal role that belongings play in transition times, particularly for children navigating multiple cultures.

Belongings serve as cultural artifacts and hold great emotional significance, aiding families in navigating the intricacies of international moves and supporting children’s development through multiple transitions.

The absence of belongings for an extended period can amplify their emotional value, and their subsequent reunion can evoke a profound sense of comfort and reassurance.

Ensuring a smooth and efficient relocation process, where belongings are meticulously preserved, is thus paramount. Whether entrusting the packing process to a team of professional movers, or undertaking it independently proper packing is essential to facilitate the smoothest transition possible.

Culture And Taste: When What We Like Impacts How We Move

When relocating to a new country, we carry with us not only our physical belongings but also our cultural backgrounds and traditions. These cultural and personal preferences subtly shape our attitudes toward our belongings and influence how we envision and carry our relocation process.

For instance, in Vietnamese traditional houses, ceramics and wooden furniture are a staple and hold a significant cultural and emotional value.

In other countries, or in households with a more modern minimalistic style, furniture might carry less emotional weight, while other items and trinkets hold invaluable value, no matter their financial one.

Recognizing these cultural and lifestyle nuances is essential for a seamless transition during relocation. By understanding them and the personal preferences that underpin your perceptions of objects, you can better pay close attention to what matters the most to you and effectively communicate your priorities to your relocation partner.

Appropriate packing, transportation, and unpacking are essential for all items. However, identifying the ones that you attach the most value to, and ensuring they are taken care of in accordance with your requirements is what makes the difference!
